Encodes a novel protein with no predicted membrane-spanning domains that is polymorphic among Arabidopsis accessions. The protein may modulate a metal transporter. Mutants are resistant to IAA-Leu, IAA-Phe, and the divalent metals cobalt and manganese but remain sensitive to free IAA; they are defective in lateral root formation and primary root elongation.
